On the road to education, Shanghai Thomas School has always been very active: actively connecting with first-line educational resources at home and abroad, actively absorbing the most cutting-edge educational theories, and actively sharing our insights and practices regarding education with parents. At the beginning of the new semester, the school grandly launched the Shanghai Thomas School Famous Teacher Lecture Series, inviting well-known education experts from home and abroad to share their thoughts on education with teachers, students, and parents.

第一期名师讲堂,我们荣幸地邀请到了剑桥大学副校长、英国皇家工程院院士、世界著名超导专家David Cardwell教授,他也是安生学校发展指导委员会委员,从学校创办伊始,就开始为学校的发展规划建言献策,为安生PBL项目担任总导师。
In the first famous teacher lecture, we were honored to invite Professor David Cardwell, Vice-President of the University of Cambridge, academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and world-renowned superconducting expert. He is also a member of the Thomas School Development Steering Committee. Since our school’s establishment, he has provided ongoing guidance for the school's development planning and serves as the chief instructor of the Project Based Learning (PBL) project.
#1“什么样的学生能进剑桥?”
作为世界顶尖名校,剑桥大学是莘莘学子们梦寐以求的学府。什么样的学生能进剑桥呢?是你来自哪所学校,或是拥有某些特殊背景?亦或是拥有与所选专业无关的特长?其实,这些都不重要。
As a top university in the world, the University of Cambridge is the dream institution for many students. What kind of students can be admitted to the University of Cambridge? Does it matter what school you came from? Do you have to have some special background? Do you need expertise that is unrelated to your chosen major? In fact, these are not important.
在讲座中,David Cardwell教授坦言,除了学业成绩外,学术能力和潜力是剑桥极为看重的。对所选学科是否有热情,是否具备所选学科的知识素养,是否有学习的主动性,是否有足够的自信心和能力去完成各项任务,是否善于研究……这些才是剑桥大学在筛选学生时所强调的。
In the lecture, Professor David Cardwell said frankly that in addition to academic performance, academic ability and potential are what’s highly valued by Cambridge. Whether you have enthusiasm for the chosen subject, whether you have the knowledge literacy of the chosen subject, whether you have the initiative to learn, whether you have enough self-confidence and ability to complete various tasks, whether you are good at research... these factors are what Cambridge University emphasizes when admitting students.
#2“不同阶段,培养孩子要注重什么”
在David Cardwell教授眼中,终身或可转移的技能与专业知识同样重要,优质而均衡的教育将为孩子的未来带来更多的机会。因此,在每个阶段,都需要根据孩子的成长特性进行课程选择和规划。
In the eyes of Professor David Cardwell, lifelong or transferable skills are as important as technical knowledge, and a high-quality and balanced education will bring more opportunities for a child’s future. Therefore, course choice and planning are essential at every stage.
幼儿阶段,孩子如同一块空白的画布,他们对知识有着无止境的渴求,因此营造良好的环境对发展潜能至关重要,家长们要耐心地与孩子进行互动,善于关注每个孩子的需求,鼓励和培养他们的想象力和自信心。
In the early childhood stage, children are like a blank canvas. They have an endless thirst for knowledge. As such, creating a good environment is crucial to the development of potential. Parents should patiently interact with children, pay attention to the unique needs of each child, and encourage and develop their imagination and self-confidence.
小学阶段,这个阶段的学生不善读写,专注力不够,因此体验式学习至关重要,要引导孩子们积极社交,在与不同人的接触中培养社交能力,让身体和心灵都在路上,在探索世界的过程中激发兴趣,培养想象力。
At the primary school stage, students are generally weaker at reading and writing and have insufficient concentration. Therefore, experiential learning is very important. It is necessary to guide children to actively socialize and cultivate social skills in contact with different people, and balance physical and mental activities. We should stimulate their interest and cultivate their imagination while exploring the world.
初中阶段,相比于小学,这一阶段的孩子专注力有所提高,但仍然需要以体验式学习为主。孩子这时可能开始有了自己的兴趣爱好,擅长的学科有了偏向,竞争意识也已经出现,这时,家长除了在关键点上对孩子给予正确的指导外,要善于引导孩子,帮助孩子去学会自己做决定,减少对家长的依赖。
At the middle school stage, compared with primary school, children have improved concentration, but they still need to focus on experiential learning. At this stage, each child may start to have his or her own interests and hobbies, and a sense of competition can also emerge. In addition to giving sound advice and guidance to children in crucial areas, parents must help them learn to make decisions on their own and reduce dependence on parents.
高中阶段,学生的目标感和竞争意识都会很强烈,在严峻的学业压力下,也可能因此更加脆弱,家长要多去表扬他们,增强他们的自信心,给予他们足够的支持,帮助他们学会独立。
In high school, students have a strong sense of purpose and competition, which can in fact weaken their resolve when faced with intense academic pressure. Parents should praise them more, enhance their self-confidence, and give them enough support in order to help them learn to be independent.
#3“有没有什么行之有效的学习方法?”
有没有一种学习方法能让学生又能解决现实问题,又能保持更高水平的学习力?有!PBL项目式学习。
Is there a learning method that allows students to solve real-world problems and maintain a higher level of motivation? Yes! PBL(project-based learning).
作为一种以学生为中心的教学法,PBL基于问题导向,不强调用既定的方案去解决问题,而是让学生在发现中学习,通过自己去定义问题,通过头脑风暴去提出假设,并在阅读文献、亲身实践中找到问题的解决方法,注重学生的反思精神、团队合作能力、创新思维的培养。
As a student-centered teaching method, PBL is problem-oriented but does not focus on problem solving with a defined solution; rather, it allows students to learn through discovery: students must define problems on their own, propose hypotheses through brainstorming, find and study relevant literature, and uncover solutions to problems through trial and error. Through this process, PBL cultivates students' reflective spirit, teamwork ability, and innovative thinking.

As early as its establishment, STS has received guidance from a group of top education experts such as Professor David Cardwell of Cambridge University, a Dean of the School of Education at Stanford University, and a Director of the Science Laboratory of Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and Technology, the first public high school in the United States. Constructive opinions have been put forward from a high level in terms of setting, education and teaching, development planning, etc. by these esteemed fellows, allowing STS to be founded upon a foundation of high-quality planning from the beginning.

In order to help students aspire to first-class schools, Ambright Education Group has also specially set up the China Excellence Identification Scheme (CEIS) for world-famous schools. Its AST (Aptitude Scholastic Test) examination is also called China's own "International College Entrance Examination" and is China's first international standardized university entrance exam, which integrates national high school curriculum standards and refers to the Chinese College Entrance Examination.
