Both “raise” and “rise” describe an upward movement.

强调的是动作本身自行升高或增加。
e.g. Sea levels rise every year.
海平面每年都在上升。
The sun rises every morning.
太阳每天早上都会升起。
The cost of living rose by 5% last year.
去年,生活成本上升了5%。

How are “raise” and “rise” different?
Raise和rise,到底有什么区别呢?
我们再来细看两个例子。
◆Apple won its law suit against Samsung in the United States. As a result, Samsung may raise the prices of its Galaxy phones. (Companies raise prices. The prices are put up.)
苹果在美国对三星提起了法律诉讼,苹果胜诉了。结果是,三星可能会提高其Galaxy系列手机的价格。(这里的“价格”是由公司来提高的,价格是被提高。)
◆ The price of gas has risen by 10 cents in the last month.
(Prices rise. They go up on their own.)
