Marcelino made a miscalculation error by using his strongest lineup in the first leg of this Cup tie and using a weaker side in the league game against Las Palmas, as they lost 2-1 and saw Gabriel leaving early with a red card.
The first leg ended with a hard fought victory for the hosts despite Alaves going 0-1 up, and that away goal means that a 1-0 will be more than enough for them to go through. They had a Sunday “easy” game at home against Leganes, a 2-2 draw that after conceding two late goals in what should have been a comfortable victory, and with Abelardo in the bench,they are unbeaten in seven of the 10 games he’s been in charge.
With the manager, Alaves have won for and drawn one in the five home games played, and most importantly, keep a clean sheet in the four victories before Leganes scored in the 75th minute from the penalty spot.
Valencia in the other hand has won only one of the last five away games, losing three of them and conceding seven goals, so we expect the visitors to get at least a draw here, regarding Valencia maybe going through to the next stage.
