近年来越来越多的人选择去日本旅行，不可避免都要乘坐日本错综复杂的电车系统。在2020年东京奥运会和残奥会的来临之际，日本铁道旅行作家给外国观光客如何在电车站向日本人询问提供了一些简单的贴士。
例1：在御茶之水站想乘电车去水道桥
A：“I would like to go to Suidobashi, Which train shall I take？”
B：“You can take the local train bound for Nakano. The train with yellow stripe.
“You must not take the rapid service with red stripe.”
日语中表示电车等的终点站用“~行き”表示，比如“中野行き”表示终点站是中野，而用英文表达则是bound for。此外，在每一个车站都停靠的电车称“local train”。在东京首都圈没有在每一站停靠的的通勤电车称“rapid service”。
例2：在横滨站想问特急电车“舞女”的停车站有哪些？
A： “Is this train bound for Atami？ ”
B：“Yes, this is the Odoriko Express bound for Izukyu－Shimoda. This train stops at Ofuna, Odawara,Yugawara and Atami. Bye the way, do you know you have to pay the extra fare？ ”
A：“I have the Japan Railpass. ”
B：“Oh, no problem！
日本的电车分为特急、急行、准急快速、通勤快速、区间快速、准特急等。而日本各个铁道公司也没有统一英文翻译。所以为了避免乘坐出错，询问时最好跟对方确认停车站和站台名。
